One inquisitive MeetnGreeter took to our online forum to find out where he could find the best Mexican Restaurants in San Diego. Here is what the helpful, MeetnGreet community of super smart people came up with…
Nicos Mexican Food
4918 Newport Ave in Ocean Beach
According to Zeynep W: “It is super small, but their Carne Asada burritos are legit.”
Kai P chimes in: “Nico’s is great, their Cali burrito is supposedly ranked the 2nd best burrito in the nation!”
*Fact check…Kai was not making this stat up…According to The Daily Meal, the California Burrito from Nico’s is indeed the second best burrito in America. Read the article to see for yourself.
(p.s., I have had the burrito that made the #1 spot, and it is A-mazing!).
Ortiz’s Taco Shop
3704 Voltaire Street in Point Loma & 1313 Garnet Ave in Pacific Beach
More from Kai P: “I’’m partial to Ortiz’s Taco Shop! Their Cali’s are amazing!”
Las Cuatro Milpas
1875 Loga Ave in Logan
Lindsay S thinks: “Las cuatro milpas is in my opinion the best Mexican in San Diego. It’s a small hole in the wall in Logan… And the hours are a little weird … Pretty sure they close at like 3 ( or maybe when they run out of tortillas) but it’s super authentic”
*Warning, this place is Cash Only, and their hours are 8:30-3:00 (closed on Sundays)…but seems worth it!
Locations in Downtown, Kerney Mesa, Bonita, Chula Vista, Sunbow (Eastlake coming soon)
Shannan Yucel (wait that’s me) writes: “I love Lolita’s! They have a location right by Petco Park and another in Kerney Mesa. Their Carne Asada fries are on point!”
Trujillo’s Taco Shop
5119 College Ave by SDSU
In the words of Cort Douglass: “you have to try Trujillo’s Taco Shop close to SDSU. Their Cali Burritos are insane.”
*Cort isn’t the only one digging Trujillo’s. Enterprise News included Trujillo’s on their list of “The best late-night food joints in 40 major US college towns.” Check it out here.
If this list didn’t make you ridiculously hungry, then you must be crazy (or just not a Mexican food fan…which also makes you crazy)! You now have a mission to consume some delicious grub at all of these five winning restaurants and let us know what you think!
Don’t see your favorite spot on the list? Let us know in the comments below, or better yet, dish it out on the MeetnGreet Forum. The super smart people of the MnG community are waiting to hear your opinions as well as help you answer any other questions/comments you feel like posting.
